Wat
Over het IJ is de afgelopen jaren meer geworden dan alleen een presentatieplek namelijk; de belangrijkste landelijke broedplaats voor stedelijk locatietheater. Een jaarrond platform voor nieuwe makers en publiek om binnen verschillende ontwikkeltrajecten en programma’s antwoorden te zoeken op overkoepelende vragen over stedelijk (samen)leven, met een focus op het verbeelden van alternatieven en het activeren van het publiek.
Vanaf 2025 organiseert Over het IJ een coherent verbonden festival-tweeluik voor en met de nieuwe generatie locatietheater-makers én publiek. Het eerste luik is in het tweede weekend van mei, op de NDSM-werf, en gefocust op work-in-progress. Het tweede luik zal plaatsvinden in het laatste weekend van september, in een wisselend gebied in Amsterdam-Noord.

Voor wie
Over het IJ is er voor de nieuwe generatie locatietheater-makers met een maximale werkervaring als maker van zo’n 7 jaar. Over het IJ is geïnteresseerd in makers die op alle mogelijke manieren werken met een locatie, tussen en over alle disciplines heen, die met hun werk een interactie zoeken met publiek.

Het gaat binnen onze ontwikkeltrajecten echt om het ontwikkelen van nieuw werk en niet het doorprogrammeren van al bestaand werk.

Procedure 
Begin oktober van elk jaar kiezen we de makers met wie we het opvolgende jaar gaan samenwerken. Dat betekent dat je (ruim) voor half september contact met ons moet zoeken met een nieuw plan. Het hele jaar door spreken wij makers hierover.

Je kunt al mailen met een begin idee of voorstel (dus niet per se een geheel uitgewerkt plan). Uit het voorstel moet goed blijken waarom juist jij dit nu en bij ons wilt ontwikkelen, en waarom de rol van de locatie en de context van de stad belangrijk voor je zijn in dit voorstel. Bij interesse aan onze kant gaan we met elkaar in gesprek over je plan in relatie tot een locatie en Over het IJ. ONTWIKKELTRAJECTEN VAN OVER HET IJ

UNBOXED
Onze partners in talentontwikkeling (gezelschappen, productiehuizen) dragen makers met werkervaring tussen de 0 en 2 jaar aan voor UNBOXED. Hier kan je als maker dus niet zelf voor aanmelden. Over het IJ nodigt deze makers uit zich bij het ontwikkelen van een plan te laten inspireren door een locatie op de NDSM-werf. Tijdens een begeleid ontwikkeltraject ontwikkelen de makers een nieuwe mini-locatietheatervoorstelling, onder de vleugels van Over het IJ, van beginidee tot eindpresentatie, van maximaal 15 minuten.
Tijdspad: 5 maanden (niet fulltime) - start traject in januari, presentatie in mei in een UNBOXED-tour.

UNFOLDED
In het UNFOLDED - (voorheen Nieuwe Makers Programma) geeft Over het IJ Festival jonge theatermakers – maximaal 5 jaar werkzaam als maker – de ruimte voor een klein onderzoek naar locatietheater in Amsterdam-Noord. Zij presenteren in het eerste luik een work-in-progress, en in het tweede luik hun nieuwe werk, soms in experimentele fase, soms al helemaal compleet in een kleine voorstelling of presentatie (maximaal 30 minuten). Onderdeel van het traject is een residentie en begeleiding (artistiek, zakelijk, marketing, productie). 
Tijdspad: 9 maanden (niet fulltime) - start traject in januari, tussentijdse work-in-progress presentatie in mei, eindresultaat in september.

STADSKUNSTENAARS
Over het IJ organiseert sociaal-artistieke projecten met Stadskunstenaars die aan projecten in Amsterdam-Noord werken die een expliciete en langdurige verbinding maken met Amsterdam- Noord, bewoners of communities in dit Stadsdeel.  Zij presenteren work-in-progress tijdens het eerste luik in mei en in een meer “affe versie” in september.

Heb je plannen die een specifieke verbinding aangaan met Amsterdam-Noord? Mail dan naar Arthur Kneepkens. 
Tijdspad: 1,5 jaar (niet fulltime) - start traject in januari, eindresultaat in september opvolgend jaar.


PROGRAMMERING

REGULIERE PROGRAMMA 
Naast de ontwikkeltrajecten heeft Over het IJ ingehuurde programmering welke, naast de presentaties van de ontwikkeltrajecten, gepresenteerd worden tijdens Over het IJ Festival. Het (kleine) reguliere programma toont makers die nog een laatste zetje nodig hebben richting het gevestigde veld en ons als presentatieplatform echt goed kunnen inzetten. Vaak waren zij eerder onderdeel van een ontwikkelingsprogramma van Over het IJ. Deze makers presenteren de voorstelling in september.

UNPACKED

UNPACKED, het verdiepingsprogramma van Over het IJ focust zich binnen en buiten het festival-tweeluik op de thematische verdieping op de onderwerpen uit de programmering. Dit is in de vorm van een gesprek, een kunstwerk, een installatie of andere vorm werk. 

Als je werk niet binnen onze bestaande programmakaders of ontwikkeltrajecten past maar je toch denkt dat je werk bij ons past, horen we het graag. Dit kun je ook laten weten door even te mailen, dan kunnen we samen kijken of er toch een mogelijkheid tot samenwerking is, of met je meedenken over andere plekken waar je werk zou kunnen passen. A GUIDE FOR MAKERS

This page provides information on how to get involved as a new creator in Over het IJ's new festival twosome for 2025 and beyond and how this procedure works. Important at Over the IJ is the focus on site-specific theatre and the connection to themes and stories that live in the metropolitan context.

Besides being a maker's go-to at Over het IJ in development projects, year-round activities are also organised for makers. You can find those here.

What
Over the past few years, Over het IJ has become more than just a presentation venue namely; the most important national breeding ground for urban location theatre. A year-round platform for new makers and audiences to seek answers to overarching questions about urban (co)life within various development paths and programmes, with a focus on depicting alternatives and activating audiences.
From 2025, Over het IJ organises a coherent connected festival diptych for and with the new generation of location theatre makers and audiences. The first hatch is in the second weekend of May, at the NDSM wharf, focused on work-in-progress. The second hatch will take place in the last weekend of September in a changing area in Amsterdam-Noord.

For whom
Over het IJ is for the new generation of location theatre makers with a maximum working experience as a maker of about 7 years. Over het IJ is interested in makers who work with a location in all possible ways, between and across all disciplines, who seek interaction with audiences with their work.

Our development programmes are really about developing new work and not reprogramming already existing work.

Procedure
In early October each year, we choose the creators with whom we will collaborate in the following year. This means that you need to contact us (well) before mid-September with a new plan. Throughout the year, we speak to makers about this.

You can already email with an initial idea or proposal (so not necessarily a fully developed plan). The proposal should clearly show why exactly you want to develop this now and with us, and why the role of the location and the context of the city are important to you in this proposal. If we are interested, we will discuss your plan in relation to a location and Over het IJ. For this, you can e-mail Bregt van Deursen, programme coordinator of Over het IJ.

DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS FROM OVER HET IJ


 UNBOXED
Our partners in talent development (companies, production houses) nominate makers with work experience between 0 and 2 years for UNBOXED. As a maker, you cannot apply for this yourself. Over het IJ invites these makers to be inspired by a location on the NDSM wharf when developing a plan. During a guided development trajectory, the makers will develop a new mini-location theatre performance, under the wings of Over het IJ, from initial idea to final presentation, of up to 15 minutes.
Timeframe: 5 months (not full-time) - start trajectory in January, presentation in May in an UNBOXED tour.

UNFOLDED
In the UNFOLDED - (formerly New Makers Programme) Over het IJ Festival gives young theatre makers - working as makers for a maximum of five years - the space for a small research project on site-specific theatre in Amsterdam North. In the first part, they present a work-in-progress, and in the second part their new work, sometimes in experimental stage, sometimes already complete in a small performance or presentation (maximum 30 minutes). Part of the trajectory is a residency and guidance (artistic, business, marketing, production).
Timeframe: 9 months (not full-time) - start trajectory in January, interim work-in-progress presentation in May, final result in September.

CITY ARTISTS
Over het IJ organises social-artistic projects with City Artists working on projects in Amsterdam North that make an explicit and long-lasting connection with Amsterdam North, residents or communities in this District. They present work-in-progress during the first part in May and in a more semi-semi-final version in September.

PROGRAMMING

REGULAR PROGRAMME
Besides the development projects, Over het IJ has hired programming which, in addition to the presentations of the development projects, are presented during Over het IJ Festival. The (small) regular programme shows makers who still need a final push towards the established field and can really put us to good use as a presentation platform. They were often previously part of an development programme of Over het IJ. These makers present the show in September.

UNPACKED

UNPACKED, Over het IJ's in-depth programme focuses within and outside the festival twosome on thematic depth on the topics in the programming. This is in the form of a conversation, an artwork, an installation or other form of work.
